As of the 1st November 2012 the EU Tyre Labelling Regulation 1222/2009 (Article 6) states that should a customer purchasing a new vehicle (be it a truck, van, car, trailer or bus) be offered a choice of tyres at the point of purchase then they should be presented with all necessary information on elements such as fuel efficiency, wet grip and external noise. Labeling also applies to tyre distributors (eg replacement tyres at dealerships before he sale and on or with the bill).
If all vehicles were fitted with low rolling resistance tyres, direct emissions of eight million tonnes CO2 per year would be saved. The Regulation is also expected to improve road safety, emissions and tyre life through increased consumer awareness of tyre-related issues (eg correct inflation).
